"Melu Grubyug", a sublime philosophy of the Javanese

"Melu Grubyug Ora Ngerti Rembug" is one of the Javanese proverb, meaning a went along attitude toward others but do not understand what exactly is going on. This not only occurs in young, even older people also often do the same thing .

This attitude can happen anywhere, and by anyone, not just Javanese people. Usually this happens because of ignorance or indifference to the subject of a problem. For example, many Muslims want to do Polygamy (marrying more than one woman at the same time) because they believe that it is a worship that has a religious value. Though polygamy is not as simple as they think. Polygamy can be done with a complex condition and there should be no one gets hurt. However in practice, most of polygamy ended with disappointment, frustration, and even divorce. This is contrary to the spirit of RA. Kartini, a Javanese woman hero who fought for the rights of women.

"Melu Grubyug" mean join en masse, "Ora Ngerti" means ignorance, and "Rembug" means the subject matter itself. [Tresno Legowo]
